NOT one Cardinia or Casey CFA member was lost after the Black Saturday bushfires.

Cardinia Group Officer Phil Craig said that no-one left the CFA as a result of the fires – quite the opposite.

“To be honest, interest has picked up,” he said. “We have gained quite a number of members over the two groups.”

He said there were more than 100 reasons why people would join the CFA and was not convinced that people were joining just because of Black Saturday.

“There are many fascinating things about the CFA and MFB,” Mr Craig said.

“Being a member of brigade is 80 per cent boredom and 20 per cent intense firefighting.

“People who join because they think we do things like Black Saturday all the time would be disappointed,” he said.
