A LOCAL bus route from Cranbourne to Dandenong has extended its hours.

Bus Route 893, run by Cranbourne Transit, started running longer hours from last Friday.

The route will now operate from 6am to 9pm on weekdays, 8am to 9pm on Saturdays and public holidays, and 9am to 9pm on Sundays, Christmas Day and Good Friday.

Cranbourne MP Jude Perera said the improvements to the service were part of the $1.4 billion overhaul of Melbourne’s bus services announced in May.

“Over the next 10 years, $646 million will be spent improving services on local bus routes across Melbourne,” Mr Perera said.

“Over the next four years, improvements will be made to more than 250 local bus routes, including extra services on weekdays and weekends, new bus routes in developing suburbs as they grow, and more frequent services on priority routes.

“The extra services are a significant boost for people living in the areas of Dandenong, Hallam, Hampton Park, Lynbrook and Cranbourne, particularly those who might rely on Route 893 to connect them to the metropolitan rail network.”

Detailed route and timetable information on the new service is available by calling Metlink on 131 638 or visiting www.metlinkmelbourne.com.au.
