Rate rise up to 7 per cent tipped

RESIDENTS in Greater Dandenong are tipped to be hit with a council rate increase of between 5 per cent and 7 per cent under a draft budget to be revealed to councillors this week.

Councillors are expected to vote at a meeting on Monday for the draft to be put on public display.

Among the proposed costings, the budget is tipped to allow for a significant increase in the cost of hard waste collection after a number of residents criticised last year’s service.

The draft budget’s arrival before council was delayed earlier this month after Greater Dandenong councillors froze a number of proposed service fee increases, forcing related paperwork to be redone.
