Dandenong Fire Brigade’s High Angle Rope Rescue crew helped save stranded tourists at Arthurs Seat this week after the site’s chairlift broke down.

DANDENONG fire fighters played a crucial role in saving tourists left dangling on the Arthurs Seat chairlift this week after it broke down.

It was the second major rescue within the week for Dandenong fire fighters who on Saturday, 13 May helped free a trapped driver following a collision at the intersection of Hammond and Bangholme Roads in Dandenong South.

CFA photographer Keith Pakenham captured images of the High Angle Rope Rescue crew from Dandenong Fire Brigade conducting a rescue operation to bring stranded tourists left hanging above Arthurs Seat scenery back to land.

Mr Pakenham said on Tuesday: “Plenty of emergency services were involved today. Luckily no-one was hurt and rescues went smoothly.”

Meanwhile, crews who freed a trapped driver from his van in Dandenong South had to use a hydraulic ram to clear the front of the crushed vehicle.

A van collided with a tow-truck at 7.20pm last Saturday, 13 May leaving the driver’s legs trapped.

After being freed from the vehicle the van driver was taken by helicopter ambulance to The Alfred hospital for treatment.
