WILLIAM Boag Architects were honoured at the Victorian School Design Awards for their design of an Altona school.

The Melbourne firm was awarded the Best School Project Above $3.5 million for its work at the new Altona P-9 College, which replaced the dated facilities of the secondary college and Altona West Primary School.

“Stunning, contemporary learning areas dominate the bright red and yellow school buildings at the new Altona P-9 College,” Education Minister Bronwyn Pike said.

“William Boag Architect’s cutting-edge design allows for both the buzz of interactive group work as well as private areas for personal study.”

Ms Pike said the awards acknowledged the outstanding contribution the architectural community had made to innovative school design and commemorate the historic rebuilding of state government schools under the Victorian Schools Plan.

Victorian Schools Plan is a $1.9 billion initiative which has seen more than 550 government schools rebuilt, renovated or extended.
