FOR Damian Callinan, his show ‘From the Cave to the Rave’ is about connecting with audiences through humour and dance.

After his successful ‘Spaznuts’ tour last year, the Australian comedian is back. This time as part of the council’s performing arts program ‘Arts at Your Doorstep’.

Damian first created the performance when asked on the spot, on radio by Will Anderson and Adam Spencer to improvise a new show.

Later, he decided it was a good idea and shaped it into a proper performance, nicknaming it version 2.0.

The former drama teacher-turned stand up comedian said he enjoyed doing rural tours because he could get to the heart of a community.

“I enjoy the direct connection with the community. If you point something out about a town everyone knows about it,” said Damian.

In ‘From the Cave to the Rave’, Damian explains everything from why women dance around handbags to why you shouldn’t crowd surf at a Wiggles concert. “It’s quite biographical as a kid I started acting out New Romantic’s film clips and this was the first time I got people to laugh and got attention from girls.”

Damian is a regular at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival and television shows Rove Live, Before the Game and The Wedge.

Damian will be performing at Williamstown Mechanics Institute on Friday 17 September and Saturday 18 September.
