PAINT is running through Ian Bunn’s veins. With each stroke of the paintbrush, the Werribee resident hopes to transport his audience to another time and place with his new digitally manipulated pop art collection exhibiting at Victoria University this month.
The ‘My World is Spinning’ collection showcases six original pieces which marry acrylic portraits of famous faces with textured digital projections. Despite being a ‘Sunday painter’ for the past 20 years, Ian admits he wasn’t initially keen to explore new mediums.
“I was very much encouraged by my art professor VCA (Victorian College of the Arts), who said I should try to explore other types of media,” Iann said.
“I didn’t really struggle with using digital media, it was more like an addition to my original work progress, but a lot more time-consuming.”
Recently Ian returned from Soho, New York where he showcased a similar art exhibition at the Emmanuel Fremin Gallery for six weeks. Unlike some artists who relaunch dated artwork for worldwide exhibitions, Ian said he wouldn’t follow their path.
“I have too much creative energy, when you have so much new work, why go back to the old?” he added.
As for future plans, the Werribee artist is looking forward to sharing his artwork in his home state, while working toward new pieces for his upcoming Pigment Gallery exhibition in September.
“Painting’s in my blood, it’s just a natural progression in my life and my life keeps evolving,” Ian said.
Ian Bunn’s ‘My World is Spinning’ collection will exhibit at the Level 17 Gallery at Victoria University’s Flinders St campus between 27 July and 13 August. For more information please visit: www.ianbunn.com
