RESIDENTS helped police move a light pole from across traffic lanes after a man driving a stolen vehicle rammed into it last Thursday.

Police said they noticed a man driving a stolen car about 11.30am in Laverton, shortly afterwards, he took down a light pole and backed into another vehicle before dumping the car in Cropley Crescent.

Senior Constable Mick Broughton said drivers helped move the pole to allow traffic to pass.

“When he took out the light pole and was reversing to continue, I think he’s nudged another car,” he said.

The stolen car sustained fairly heavy damage to the front passenger side and also other damage across the vehicle. Several people witnessed the event, and the driver has not yet been arrested.

Sen Const Broughton said the man was known to police. Contact Constable Spykers at Laverton police station on 9369 2122 with information.
