RESIDENTS of a respite house in Williamstown will have better mobility around town after a community bus was delivered to them on Thursday.

The Independence Australia respite house, Bayside Villa, received the bus after a year of asking for donations from businesses, individuals and charity organisations.

The bus was a replacement and will continue to help the residents get to medical appointments, recreational and social outings, educational opportunities, and to visit family.

Handing the bus across to the residents, Independence Australia chief executive Peter Turner said they were conscious of how much it worked in with their aim of supporting people’s independence.

“We are not here just to put a roof over their heads, but to help people with disabilities in their personal endeavours to participate in their communities,” Mr Turner said.
