A HOPPERS Crossing taekwondo school is celebrating its recent success at the Victorian Taekwondo Selection Championships on 15 and 22 August.
Students of City West Taekwondo won 30 gold, 17 silver and nine bronze medals at the championships, and qualified its sparring and technical team for the national championships in October.
The school has a record amount of wins at the Victorian Technical Selections Championships across both coloured belt and black belt divisions.
Among the medal winners were three-time black belt Australian champion Carla De Pasquale, who bagged five gold medals from five events, black belt team-mates, Ebony Biden (3 gold, 1 silver), Madison Ebejer (2 gold, 1 silver) and Danieka De Pasquale (2 gold, 1 silver, 1 bronze).
Dilan Ismail, who was featured in last week’s Star article celebrating the western suburbs’ talented taekwondo exponents, also bagged a gold medal.
The Red belt divisions were also well covered with City West Taekwondo winning top three placings in the female under 10 division, as well as the female 11-13 years division.
The City West crew next look forward to competing on a grander scale, when they will take on the country’s top players across sparring and technical disciplines at the Australian Open Taekwondo Championships, to be held at the AIS in Canberra in October.
