MORE than 40,000 bookworms have flocked to the Point Cook Library since its opening two months ago.
The library has welcomed 44,682 patrons, 3039 new members and has issued 77,856 loans.
Truganina Ward councillor Kim McAliney said she was not surprised the 950 square metre library had been popular. “With over $1.1 million worth of books and a designated youth and children’s area, a learning room and an audio visual room, it’s not just book lovers who are flocking to the library,” Cr McAliney said.
“The library also features 10 public access computers with broadband, including one on an adjustable desk for people with disabilities.”
Mayor Shane Bourke said the library was in a great location at the Point Cook Town Centre.
“The library is the centrepiece of the $6.6 million Point Cook Community Learning Centre, which has also been immensely popular since it opened in July,” he said. “In addition to the library, the centre also features community rooms, community learning rooms, occasional care facilities, toy library, community kitchen, two kindergarten rooms and two maternal and child health consulting rooms, making it a one stop shop for residents.”
The Point Cook Library is located at 1-21 Cheetham Street.
