WYNDHAM City Council has released plans for the long awaited Wedge Street Piazza.

The $900,000 project will be a public square, located in the Werribee City Centre on Watton St, overlooking the Werribee River and Wyndham Park.

A kiosk has also been slated for the site.

Iramoo Ward councillor John Menegazzo said the council was constructing a place where residents and shoppers could gather.

Mayor Shane Bourke said the piazza would serve as a key entry point to the Werribee City Centre’s Riverbank Precinct.

“The piazza will increase people’s awareness of the presence of the Werribee River in the Werribee City Centre and increase their opportunity to enjoy this significant natural asset,” Cr Bourke said.

The council aims to have the project fully designed, documented and tendered by the end of 2009.

Construction is expected to start early next year and be completed by mid 2010.
