COUNCILLOR Heather Marcus is believed to be seeking the mayoral robes for the first time next year.
Star has been told she is in the box seat to take over the reins from Mayor Shane Bourke.
The councillors will vote for the mayor and deputy mayor in a special meeting on 2 December.
It is believed Cr Kim McAliney will be voted as her deputy.
Cr Marcus has resided over the Iramoo Ward for the past four years.
She said the greatest issue facing the council next year would be the water crisis.
“With the drought and hot weather it will cause many problems for us,” Cr Marcus said.
“We will be working with the State Government to create a water strategy so we will be ready if and when we go on to stage four water restrictions.”
Cr Marcus said the council would also be campaigning for more artificial turfs.
“With the city growing as quickly as it is, it is creating many problems for us,” she said.
Truganina Ward councillor Bob Fairclough declared last month he would seek the top job next year.
