YOUNG Wyndham families are worried about their children’s safety, as shattered glass is left strewn across parks.

Wyndham City Council met with concerned parents last week at Tamarind Crescent Reserve where broken beer bottles line the playground.

Mayor Shane Bourke said the children were running the risk of cutting themselves.

“There has been a lot of broken glass over a period of time,” he said.

“It’s been getting into the softfall under the play equipment.”

Cr Bourke said council workers had scoped out the area.

“Its not so much about council cleaning it up, it is more about people not doing it,” he said.

“It’s about educating people to not do it in the first place.”

The council will investigate having a rubber surface instead of bark under the equipment.

Cr Bourke was also alerted to the trouble with trail bikes at the reserve.

He said barriers would now be positioned at two entrances to act as a deterrent to speeding.

Potential accidents have marred the municipality for years.

Environmentalists hold grave concerns for the state of the Werribee River.

They believe the joyriders destroyed a rock pool site, are leaving skid marks to stake their territory and have built sand hills across the bank.

Cr Bourke said there were facilities at Lawrie Emmins Reserve for trail bike usage.
