WYNDHAM City Council is joining forces with Victoria Police and the TAC to boost road safety.

The council has received $15,000 from the TAC Road Safety Commission for the Wyndham – Know Your Limit project.

Council staff, police officers and trained volunteers will set up a marquee to offer free breathalyser testing for people leaving local venues and community events where alcohol is served.

Mayor Shane Bourke said the project would take the uncertainty out of driving home after a big night.

“As part of the Know Your Limit project, people consuming alcohol at venues and events in Wyndham can be breathalysed and if they are over the limit, offered free tea and coffee and re-tested after 15 minutes,” Cr Bourke.

The project is set to be launched at Weerama in March 2010.

Council will also be calling for expressions of interest from local venues, pubs and clubs early next year.
