HOPPERS Crossing’s Nola Cordell takes the cake when it comes to creating a jaw-dropping dessert.
Over 32 years she has mastered the fine art of cake decorating in her kitchen, where the award-winning sweets take shape.
Nola learnt the trade skills from the Cake Decorators Association seminars and workshops around the state.
When Show time rolls around every year, this diligent work is unveiled.
“I work every night and weekends when working for the Show,” Nola said.
The 63-year-old won best floral arrangement at the Royal Melbourne Show last month.
The sweet tooth hobby has bestowed her with many awards and the talent to compete in more the 30 competitions.
But the cake making comes with strict guidelines, from the amount of ribbon and wire used to the size.
A practice makes perfect mentality has made Nola in high demand across the community, catering for weddings and birthdays.
Among her creations is a five-tier Wizard of Oz cake detailing the cyclone, and yellowbrick road up to the witches castle.
Nola said she kept the cakes in a cabinet, then donated or sold them.
Her two children and two grandchildren are more than happy to watch in awe.
Nola will pass on her tips when holding a Christmas cake decoration class at the Iramoo Community Centre.
It will take place from the 7 November until 12 December between 1pm and 4pm.
