EIGHT small fires were extinguished across Wyndham last Thursday as firefighters battled with wild weather and firebugs. Fires occurred in Werribee, Hoppers Crossing, Tarneit, Werribee South and Little River.
Region 14 lieutenant John Ryan said the grassland fire in Werribee South was the result of a cigarette butt.
“On the median strip near the Duncans Rd overpass someone threw a cigarette butt out their car window,” he said.
Lieut Ryan said a grass fire in Golden Ave was being treated as suspicious.
