A DELAHEY man had his car impounded last week after being clocked doing 117km/h over the speed limit.

Fawkner Highway Patrol detected the 31-year-old, already on a suspended licence, allegedly travelling at 197km/h in an 80km/h zone on the Calder Highway between the Western Ring Rd and Green Gully Rd.

The man was arrested and charged with conduct endangering life, driving in a dangerous manner, at a dangerous speed, an excessive speed and driving while suspended.

His Honda Accord was immediately impounded for 48 hours.

Senior Constable Cameron Manniche said the Calder Freeway was busy at the time the motorist was intercepted and his conduct disregarded other motorists’ safety.

“Speed limits are in place for the safety of all Victorian road users and Victoria Police work hard to enforce them in order to reduce the road toll,” Snr Const Manniche said.
