Bye bye booze ... Hillside resident Andrew Pirchan will be giving up alcohol next month to raise money for charity. 52750

ANDREW Pirchan has no problems giving up alcohol, it’s his skinny cappuccino that he will miss.

The Hillside resident will be tipping all his beer, wine and spirits down the sink next month in a bid to raise money for charity.

Mr Pirchan will be taking part in Octsober, a fund-raising initiative which encourages people to cut out alcohol for a month to raise funds for drug and alcohol education.

But for Mr Pirchan, saying goodbye to the booze wasn’t nearly enough. The 34-year-old will also be abstaining from all other drinks including soft drinks, juice and coffee.

“I’ll be drinking nothing but water for a month,” Mr Pirchan said.

“As an everyday Australian I do like to indulge in a drink from time to time but I don’t think it will be as hard for me to give it up as it is for others.

“Giving up my skinny cappuccino and diet cokes is going to be an extra challenge.”

A manager at Ethiad Stadium, Mr Pirchan has been an ambassador for Octsober for the past three years.

He has helped to raise more than $14,000 for the charity with the support of local football clubs. This year he hopes to raise $2000 single-handedly.

A father of two, Mr Pirchan said it was important to educate young people about the dangers of drugs and alcohol.

“My children are a big part of the reason why I’m doing this,” he said. “As a parent, I don’t want to see my children in the position where they are addicted.

“You can only do your best to teach them the right things and that’s why campaigns such as Octsober are so important.”
