WESTERN Jets were eliminated from the TAC Cup finals on Sunday, after a disappointing 77-point loss against Gippsland Power.
The Jets led at quarter-time at Visy Park, but were outclassed from there and went down 20.14 (134) to 8.9 (57).
The Jets had reason to enter the elimination final with some confidence, after narrowly losing to the Power in round 16 of the regular season.
At the first break, they held a six-point advantage – but that was before Gippsland piled on the pain.
The Power kicked five goals to one in the second term to lead by 19 points at half-time. They extended that margin to 42 points by the final change of ends and the contest was over.
Gippsland then booted seven goals in the final term to post a resounding victory and end the Jets’ season.
In the end, a 17-goal-to-four rout in the final three quarters told the full story.
Jordan Mead, Shylo Smith and Will Hoskin-Elliott were among the best for the Jets, while Kym Taylor and Jaxon Cooke pocketed two goals each.
The Jets showed improved form in the second half of the season, after losing their first 10 matches.
They finished the season with three wins, and collected the scalps of Murray Bushrangers, Eastern Ranges and Bendigo Pioneers.
