APART from fire and smoke tricks, there was plenty of events to see and music to hear at the annual Brimbank Festival in Sunshine on Saturday.

Part of the celebrations was the 2010 Brimbank Idol sing-off, which was won by Sam Stark.

The 23-year-old took out the title after competing against more than 10 other entrants.

As well as the Idol competition, this year’s festival celebrated the area’s multiculturalism.

In addition to music and dancing from from Serbia, Croatia, Macedonia, South America, West Africa, the Cook Islands and other nations, the entertainment included food and market stalls, children’s activities, street theatre, the Brimbank on Parade event and a circus.

Brimbank City Council also held an environmentally friendly series of talks on sustainability and Channel Nine personality Peter Hitchener was the festival’s guest star.
