A SUNSHINE residents group is demanding that the State Government reconsiders a decision to build social housing on the same site as an RSL, amid claims the planning process was a sham.

Concerned residents will write to Planning Minister Justin Madden, insisting a review of the Sunshine RSL development after declaring they no longer have confidence in his decisions. Mr Madden came under fire last month when a leaked email revealed his office planned to conduct a sham community consultation into another development.

The email, mistakenly sent to journalists by Mr Madden’s media advisor, suggested the government use the consultation process as a pretext for rejecting the project.

The revelations have infuriated Sunshine residents, who claim the Sunshine RSL development was also a foregone conclusion.

Members of the Sunshine Residents and Ratepayers Association will write to the State Government urging it to re-examine the RSL proposal, or face the wrath of the community.

“We want an investigation into the process that approved this development,” said SunRRA president Darlene Reilly.

“This community is giving Madden a vote of no confidence and we want the decision to be reviewed.”

Under the plan, 30 social housing units will be built on the RSL site to house vulnerable women and their families.

The development was approved by Mr Madden and recommended to be fast tracked, but has yet to receive federal funding.

Star contacted the State Government for information on the progress of the development twice over the past month, but did not receive a response.
