CHRISTMAS is only a few weeks away and Brimbank businesses, groups and charities are appealing for residents to help needy families have a happier festive season.
The annual Christmas Gift Bag Appeal, now celebrating its eighth year, is being held in conjunction with the Watergardens Town Centre, the Salvation Army, Keilor Downs police station, Bunnings Watergardens, the Melbourne Fire Brigade and the Star News Group.
The Sydenham Salvation Army recently had an increase in demands for assistance, which often happens as Christmas gets closer.
Residents can collect a Christmas Appeal donation bag from the Watergardens customer service desk to put their contributions in.
The Salvation Army will collect the donations and distribute them throughout the local area.
The bags will also be available at Brimbank City Council offices, Keilor Downs police station and Watergardens Town Centre.
The Salvation Army recommends people donate foods like ready-made custard, tinned vegetables or fruit, ham, jams, biscuits, cordial, spreads or dry biscuits.
Rolls of Christmas paper, cellophane, bon bons or napkins would also be appreciated.
Due to health regulations, anyone wishing to donate children’s toys must ensure they are new and unwrapped.
The Salvation Army will be collecting donations from Watergardens until 21 December.
