THREE Brimbank primary schools will share in more than $5 million in Federal Government funding to help improve infrastructure.

Furlong Park School for Deaf Children will receive $850,000 for the construction of classrooms, St Albans East Primary School will get $2 million for a new library and St Theresa’s School will get $2 million for a multi-purpose hall.

The funding came as part of the second round of Federal Government funding for the Schools for the 21st Century program.

Federal Maribyrnong MP Bill Shorten said it was excellent to see three schools in the area receiving funds.

“This investment in our local primary schools is long overdue and will go a long way to supporting local jobs during the global recession,” Mr Shorten said. “Teachers and students in our local schools should be teaching and learning in 21st century facilities to give our children the best education possible.

“It has been great to see local principals, parents and tradespeople working together to deliver these important projects.”

Mr Shorten encouraged those schools that had not already done so to get their applications in for round three, which closes on 10 July, and will see all remaining eligible primary schools receive funding.
