A MAJOR drug ring was foiled in the state’s south-western and western suburbs last week following a large-scale police operation.
Nine men and eight women were arrested after police uncovered amphetamines, ecstasy, LSD and cannabis.
Police searched a string of properties in the West as part of Operation Caspa, including Diosma Ave in Sunshine West, Wren Court in Werribee, Iluka Drive in Werribee, McNamara Rd in Laverton and Joy St in Braybrook.
Police charged and bailed six people from Melbourne’s western suburbs for a variety of drug related offences.
They also searched the towns of Narrawong, Port Fairy, Warrnambool and Bellfield during the operation.
Crime Management Inspector Gary Bruce said the operation would have a substantial impact on reducing the supply in both Melbourne regions.
“We are confident we have shut down an active drug ring in this area,” he said.
“The investigation has sparked ongoing inquiries in relation to what appears to be a growing trend in drug trafficking in both areas.”
