KEILOR fell to a crucial loss to Williamstown CYMS in one of theVictorian Turf Cricket Association (VTCA) senior division’s upsets of the season at Keilor Recreation Reserve on Saturday.

The CYs passed the home side’s total of 170 with five wickets down, before losing three quick wickets to declare at 8/182.

Fletcher Henry top-scored for the victors, unbeaten on 48, but even contributions from the team’s top batting got the visitors over the line.

Patrick Gallivan hit 38, Danny Law 23, Warren Kelly 27 and Glen Hall 28 to get the CYs its third win of the season, and push Keilor back to third on the ladder.

Keilor co-coach Matt Willmott said it was a disappointing loss, but there was one game left for the Brimbank side to turn it around.

“The conditions favoured the bowlers, with the wicket being a bit soft from all the rain,” he said. “We were unable to get on to it Thursday night, so maybe we were a little bit unprepared, but we still felt we could have snatched the game. We obviously didn’t make enough runs last week, but I thought our fielding was the most disappointing part of the whole game.”

A win this week would give Keilor the hope of a home final, but results need to go in its favour, according to Willmott.

“I think we need to have a good win, and Airport West needs to get beat, but all we need to do is win, and hopefully that gives us a bit of confidence going into the finals series.”

In other VTCA results, Yarraville Club showed why it is on top of the senior division ladder, chasing down Airport West/St Christopher’s mammoth total of 5/336 on Saturday to win by five wickets.

The Clubbers were led by Andy Cullen, who smashed 115, and his partner at the crease Viv Ion who piled on 80. Their partnership, worth 159, steered their side to a big victory and confidence booster for the finals.

Altona North annihilated opponents St Bernards, bowling them out for a paltry 60 from 42.5 overs.

Captain Lee Elmore took home man-of-the-match honours after hitting 88 on day one, and picking up 4/8 off five overs.

Spotswood fell to an 85-run loss to Old Essendon Grammarians on Saturday, despite a rebellious century from Matt Leddin that was a shining light for the Woodsmen.
