THE new Kilmore Returned Services League president is not a stranger to the position but hopes to continue with the work its retiring president has achieved.

Harold Hurren educated John McKenzie to the role of president but promptly put his hand up for the job when Mr McKenzie stepped down in December.

“He really got the ball rolling and now I’ve got to keep pushing it,” Mr Hurren said. “He has done a terrific amount that has involved a lot of changes.”

The 77-year-old said the best change he made when he was last president was to introduce female members to the league.

“They were originally a ladies auxiliary and kept at arms length in the kitchen, but I brought them in because we need them,” Mr Hurren said.

“It leads to a greater capacity of thought and better ideas on how things are done. Combine the two (males and females) and you get a better result.”
