IT HAS been a fantastic start to the year for our club with both the reserves and seniors having big wins against Bendigo at Queen Elizabeth Oval in Bendigo on Saturday.
Our reserves team won by 198 points and remains undefeated at the top of the ladder.
Strong performances from all of the players in the reserves continue to put pressure on our senior side to keep performing and training hard.
Our senior side carried on from our reserves’ good performance and won by close to 100 points in blustery conditions. There were several contributors in our senior side as it was a good four-quarter team performance.
Young Bulldog mid-fielders Guy O’Keefe, Callan Ward, and Sam Reid were terrific and set the scene for the rest of the group along with Wayde Skipper in the ruck.
Ben Davies was terrific on the wing and put his body on the line on a couple of occasions. Stephen Tiller, Tim Callan and Jason Cloke were resolute in defence and Jarrad Grant, Matt Little and Patrick Rose capitalised on their opportunities in the forward line.
Bulldog defender Cam Wight was terrific on the last line of defence on Essendon champion Scott Lucas.
Young Dylan Joyce in only his second senior game for the club was lively and definitely added some excitement to our team. A lot of our players stayed down in Bendigo on Saturday night after the game.
I am looking forward to getting down to training this week to hear about the festivities from the weekend. I am sure plenty of fines will be dished out and add to our growing footy trip fund.
It is another big week ahead for the club. We are looking forward to playing arch-rivals Port Melbourne at home on Sunday.
It will be good to get back to Burbank Oval after having played two games away – Frankston and Bendigo. It should be a terrific game as Port Melbourne were grand finalists last year and have had another good start to the season. We will continue to train hard this week and prepare ourselves as best we can.
