THE Sanctuary Lakes Foundation committee announced the format of fundraising day on 19 June, which is the first round of the 2009 US Open. The day will commence with a light breakfast at 7am followed by a shotgun start at 10am. Prizes for the team and individual events will be given together with nearest the pin and long drive trophies for male and female players.
In the event, the best two out of the four scores will count plus each team will draw a professional playing in the US Open as their team partner and his score will be added to the team score on the day. Individual and coterie packages are available and the individual cost is $70 which will include breakfast, golf, lunch and official merchandise of the 2009 US Open Championship at Bethpage Black Golf Course in Farmingdale, New York.
The Sanctuary Lakes Foundation has assisted young professional golfers, tour players and elite young amateur golfers participating in open and amateur events as well as elite sportspersons (in a variety of sports such as soccer, handball and basketball) and high school arts grant program for the western suburbs.

LAST weekend I was in Moruya on the NSW South Coast to present trophies and medallions to the two teams who played off for the flag in the district pennant finals. I am sure that many of you have driven past the Moruya Golf Club if you have taken the Princes Highway heading for Batemans Bay or further north but if you like your golf, do yourself a favour and take the time to stop and have a round on one of the nicest courses in the region. There are excellent greens and kikuyu fairways similar to those at Kooringal. If any of the Medway boys are looking for a course to play on the Wednesday lay day during the Ace of Clubs in June, I can highly recommend Moruya golf course.

STACEY Keating has slipped to number three in Australia behind Justine Lee and Julia Boland but bigger things might be in store for her. In a recent email to friends and family she told of how the notorious “Bali Belly” took hold of the Australia Team in the Queen Sirikit Cup in Bali recently and so with rounds of one-under, one-under and two-under for the three rounds, she finished in fifth place overall and with 12 countries from the Asia Pacific region playing, her results are very creditable. Her up-coming tournaments are the Queensland Stroke Play Championship at the end of the month and also the NSW stroke play in Sydney in May. Stacey is also looking to head overseas soon to defend her Canadian Open title as well as visit and play in the UK and US.

A COUPLE of years ago I related the story of young Dylan Morrison and how he had fared in the high school golf system in the United States after learning the game at SISTEMS Golf in Hoppers Crossing and also Werribee Park. Since the family returned last year, he has slowly been cutting his handicap back and he now playing off 2. Over Easter he was successful in the member’s competition at Metropolitan Golf Club on Good Friday with a fine one-under par 71 and then playing at Sanctuary Lakes and coming in with an excellent three-under 69 which gave him 42 stableford points for another victory on Easter Sunday. This week he has been busy competing in the Geoff Ogilvy Trophy in tournaments across Victoria. I think that we may hear a lot more about this talented youngster in the future.

I AM sure that like me many of you thought that this year’s Masters was one out of the box especially those who were there with Werribee Park professional David Wren and his touring party. But there would have been some sobbing going on at Lipscomb University at Nashville in Tennessee. Lipscomb was where Kenny Perry’s wife Sandy graduated and he donates part of his earnings to that particular Christian college. Can you imagine the celebrations that would have taken place there had he have won that play-off. He might even have been given a PhD for his services to the uni.
