COUNCILLOR Geoff Porter was re-elected to the council for the second time in a row at last weekend’s elections.
Mr Porter is a schoolteacher at Holy Child Primary School in Dallas and he, his partner Julie and his eight-year-old son James live in Jacana.
Mr Porter is affiliated with the ALP, although he says “albeit loosely”.
He is a passionate Kangaroos supporter in the AFL.
Mr Porter has lived in Hume all his life and bought a house in the same street he grew up in.
It was his passion for Hume that drove him to be a councillor, he said.
“It’s a terrific place and it’s about making the most of a great community and making it as best we can,” he said.
“It’s about living it, enjoying it and loving it.”
The biggest issues affecting Hume residents and his priorities on council included:
• the rehabilitation of the Tullamarine landfill site
• stopping inappropriate developments
• marketing the work that council does to the community.
Mr Porter also said he hoped to improve sporting and recreation facilities in Hume so that people could enjoy the benefits of a fit and healthy lifestyle.
