THERE are loose ones, wagging ones, forked ones and ones that are good enough to eat.

Tongues are flavour of the month at Footscray Community Arts Centre, with artists Berni M. Janssen and Gunther Wilhelm opening a tongue-atorium dedicated to all things tongue over the weekend.

The tongue-atorium contains an eccentric collection of facts and fictions from the worlds of science, taste, sound, language, visual and the culinary arts.

And of course, no exhibition on tongues is complete without a tribute to one of the most famous tongues of all time, that of Gene Simmons from the rock band Kiss. Ms Janssen said the tongue epitomised cultural exchange.

The exhibition kicked off with a (m)other tongue symposium, with chef Robert Monteau cooking a classic North Italian tongue dish, Bollito Misto with Salsa Verde.

The tongue-atorium will run until 12 September at the Gabriel Gallery at the Footscray Community Arts Centre. Entry is free.
