YARRAVILLE’S Wembley Primary School students have channeled their inner artists for an upcoming art exhibition.
The school’s 550 students are each contributing a piece of work to The Elements, which focuses on the elements of fire, wind, earth, water.
Each classroom has also done a class piece, which will go to auction at the exhibition launch.
The school’s art program leader Marissa Connor said the exhibition included examples of wet felting, watercolours, wire and clay sculptures, papier mache and collage.
“The basis of it is on different materials, and how to manipulate different materials to find effects,” Ms Connor said.
“These kids are just amazing with what they come up with.”
Local artists, including Sally Mumford and Rob Simmons, are also donating works, which will be auctioned off at in a silent auction at the launch.
Ms Connor said items at previous auctions have sold as high as $700. The school holds an art exhibition twice a year.
The exhibition opens on 9 September at a gala launch starting at 6pm. Tickets are $10 per person, or $15 for families. Price includes a glass of wine and nibblies. The exhibition is open until 11 September.
