YARRAVILLE Club is evenly poised with Airport West St Christopher’s midway through the Victorian Turf Cricket Association senior division grand final at Donald McLean Reserve after the first two days of the four-day match.

Winning the toss and electing to bat, Airport West compiled 181 on day one, with Matt Murphy snaring a rare six-wicket haul for the Clubbers.

Starting on Sunday, having lost two late wickets on Sunday, Yarraville Club was out to build a total worthy of setting up the match in the reigning premiers’ favour.

Unfortunately for the Clubbers, they were rolled for 161, and president John Strachan said the game was there to be won for his side.

“We were 15 runs behind on the first innings. We’ve got a lot of work to do, we’ve just got to get the 10 wickets and find out what we need, and go out and make them,” he said.

Airport West was 1/34 at stumps, with an overall lead of 49 heading into day three this Saturday.

Strachan credited Airport West for restricting the Clubbers deep batting line-up.

“They bowled very well, and made it hard to score, so it’s going to be a good game,” he said.
