GREENS MLC Colleen Hartland has called on the State Government to fund the West Gate Freeway on and off ramps in this year’s budget.

In a speech in Parliament last week, Ms Hartland said the ramps were the only way to take trucks off Yarraville’s residential streets.

“What the community wanted in 2002, in 2007 and now is the same – residential streets free from trucks, free from diesel pollution, free from noise and vibrations,” Ms Hartland said.

“The planned on-off ramps from the West Gate Freeway to Hyde St, Yarraville, will allow this to occur.

“I am told that the alignment chosen for the ramps has minimal impact upon that nearby Stony Creek Reserve, and so it should be all systems go – there is support from across the community for these ramps. We just need to see the funding for them in this year’s budget.”

In July last year, Roads Minister Tim Pallas promised the Maribyrnong Truck Action Group would go ahead, with the project likely to begin this year.

Ms Hartland’s comments come two weeks after a Maribyrnong Truck Action Group Freedom of Information request found that a height detection camera installed along Francis St had given out only two fines in three years.
