A 36-YEAR-OLD man had to be taken to hospital after a tram hit his car in the second tram collision in as many months.

The man remained trapped in his car for about half an hour until advanced life support paramedics from Kensington and intensive care paramedics were called to the Raleigh Rd and Wests Rd intersection just before 8am on Thursday.

Paramedic Jillian McKinstry said the tram had T-boned the car, crushing the right-hand side.

The man was taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital in a stable condition.

“Thankfully the man didn’t hit his head on impact, and was conscious and breathing throughout,” she said.

“Looking at the level of damage done to the side of the car, the man is very fortunate not to have suffered more serious injuries.”

The accident occurred six weeks after a tram hit a car near Highpoint Shopping Centre, trapping a woman in her car.
