A TIRELESS Yarraville campaigner and a No Freeway 4 West Footscray member have been selected to sit on the WestLink Community Reference Group.

Maribyrnong representatives Bruce Light and Stuart Martin will join Peter Thompson from the Brimbank Transport Action Group and fellow Brimbank representative Clovis Bonner to help shape the WestLink project, which includes a road tunnel from the Port of Melbourne to Geelong Rd and a further connection to the Western Ring Road.

Mr Light, who is a member of Yarraville’s On The Nose Group, has campaigned for years to eradicate odour, noise and dust coming from Brooklyn industry. He is also a keen transport advocate.

Mr Martin is a member of the Socialist Alliance party and unsuccessfully stood for the Stony Creek Ward in the 2008 Maribyrnong City Council election.

The group will also be made up of representatives from local stakeholder and business groups, the Port of Melbourne Corporation, the Linking Melbourne Authority and two community members to represent Melbourne.

It will be independently chaired by community relations advocate Jeni Coutts, who has worked on other infrastructure projects including CityLink, the Basslink underwater electrical connection and the refranchising of Victoria’s public transport network.

The applicants were chosen for their community links and ability to represent a broad range of views. Residents will have the opportunity to comment on potential routes by the middle of next year.
