FOOTSCRAY will be celebrating a very special birthday this year and all residents are invited to share in the festivities.
The suburb will turn 150 in July and to celebrate, Maribyrnong City Council is mounting, what is expected to be, one of the biggest celebrations the municipality has ever seen.
The council is calling for input from the community to help plan the event, which will include workshops and food tours and culminate in a free community festival on 4 July.
Maribyrnong Mayor Michael Clarke said it was important for residents to get involved in the birthday celebrations.
“Council has some ideas about how to celebrate this historic event but it’s not solely up to us to decide how to put this event together – it’s also up to our active community,” Cr Clarke said.
“Wherever you come from and whatever your connection is with our great city and its heritage, evolution and lifestyle, we hope to see you there, helping us plan for this momentous event.”
Residents who would like to brainstorm for the event will have the opportunity to attend a community planning meeting to discuss their ideas.
The planning forum will be held on Thursday 30 April between 1pm and 3pm in the council offices.
Bookings are essential.
