TWO people were arrested for possessing drugs and four were detained for driving over the legal drinking limit in a Footscray police operation at The Anglers Tavern earlier this month.

A sniffer dog roamed outside the venue on Sunday 16 November and detected two partygoers with small amounts of methamphetamines and cocaine.

They will be summoned to appear in court at a later date.

The Footscray Traffic Management Unit was also out in full force and breath-tested 666 people in a booze bus blitz.

Three women and one man were caught with a blood alcohol level over 0.05.

Senior Constable Len Clark from the Special Unit said Anglers was developing a reputation for its rowdy Sunday night crowd.

“The residents have been complaining about the noise and people causing trouble and stuff on Sundays after the pub closes,” he said.

“It was pro-active policing at its best.”

Sen Const Clark said it was an unusually slow evening for the popular venue, with about 40 people hanging around outside Anglers during the operation.

Footscray police will conduct similar operations before and after Christmas.
