FOOTSCRAY’s rich African culture will be celebrated at the Rotary Club of Footscray’s inaugural African Festival this month.

The festival, to be held in conjunction with the Western Bulldogs Family Bike Ride, will showcase the diverse ancient culture with traditional entertainment, including African music, artefacts and costumes.

Organiser Des Stayches said the event aimed to give people the opportunity to connect with Footscray’s flourishing African culture.

“It’s a chance for us to engage with the African community and give them an outlet to showcase their unique culture,” Mr Stayches said.

“We are hoping many people will attend.”

There will be soccer and AFL clinics to keep kids active, and Rotary will also conduct free blood pressure checks.

The festival and bike ride will be held at Yarraville Gardens from 9am on Sunday 23 November.
