Bid to return oval control to council

THE Whitten Oval redevelopment could end up back in Maribyrnong City Council’s hands if Greens MLC Colleen Hartland gains Parliamentary support.
Ms Hartland is planning a Motion to Disallow in Parliament once Planning Minister Justin Madden gives notice of the planning amendment.
If passed, the motion would reverse Mr Madden’s intervention and would reinstate the council as the responsible authority.
Ms Hartland said it was wrong for the Western Bulldogs to think they were above normal planning processes.
She is sounding out National, Liberal and Democratic Labor MPs.
“We would need their support to be able to get through,” she said.
“Because it goes to the fundamentals about what planning should be about, I would hope they would see the need to support this.”
According to parliamentary guidelines, Ms Hartland has 10 Parliamentary sitting days to create, debate and pass the resolution after the original notice is given.
Ms Hartland expects to see the notice on 20 August, which would give her until mid-October to complete the process.
