MARIBYRNONG residents have been enjoying cleaner streets since the introduction of the “At Call” hard and green waste collection service.

Implemented by the Maribyrnong City Council two years ago, the collection service runs every month and has reduced incidences of illegal kerbside dumping.

Cr Catherine Cumming, said all residents had access to one free waste collection a year.

“If you’re planning a winter clean, or you’re about to move house, just book the collection to coincide with your cleaning needs,” Cr Cumming said. “Additional pickups during the year can be booked for a charge of $36.50.

“The at-call collection service is a far cry from the old system where delays occurred from time to time,” Cr Cumming said.

The service is in line with Sustainability Victoria’s Towards Zero Waste Strategy 2005-2014. It generates about 12,000kg of metal waste, which is recycled locally, and about 6000kg of green waste, which is later composted.
