HUNDREDS of people from across the City of Greater Dandenong gathered at several events to celebrate Australia Day and Australia Day Award recipients.
The winners were announced at the Drum Theatre in Dandenong.
This year’s Citizen of the Year went to John Filmer, the non-resident of the year was Max Walker, the Young Achiever of the Year was Hamed Bah and Thelma Witham was named the Good Neighbour of the Year.
Following the award ceremony, 100 residents became Australian citizens at the Citizenship Ceremony.
Residents also celebrated the day with an Australia Day Breakfast at the Springers Leisure Centre, Keysborough, where they enjoyed a free sausage sizzle, the City of Greater Dandenong band, children’s activities and stood proud for the flag raising ceremony.
The feature event was Australia Day in the Park, which boasted a variety of free activities including live musical performances, a sausage sizzle and children’s sing-a-long with Blinky Bill.
