MOST 11-year-olds boys would be ecstatic to win a motorbike, but Bryce Gathercole is not like most kids.

Last week he was awarded a brand new 2011 KTM 350 SX-F motorbike for raising $11,000 for Challenge, a non-profit organisation that supports kids with cancer and their families.

Bryce won the bike at the charity’s annual Ride 4 Kids fundraising event at the State Motorcycle Complex in Broadford last week.

The generous rider surprised event organisers and his parents when he decided to donate the bike back to Challenge.

Bryce said he wanted the charity to have the bike to replace some that were damaged at a camp he attended last month.

“They brought the bikes up in a semi-trailer and it smashed,” Bryce said.

“The bikes got wrecked.”

Bryce got involved with the charity when his brother Thomas was in intensive care four years ago.

Since then, he has participated in Challenge fundraising and camps, and said he wanted to give the bike back after an incident at a camp damaged some mini-bikes.

Bryce’s father Craig Gathercole said he and his wife Lisa were very proud of their son’s decision.

“We were absolutely blown away,” Mr Gathercole said.

“We spoke with the dealer and he’s turning one bike into three little mini-bikes.”

But does Bryce regret giving away his brand new motorbike?

“No. I would do it again,” he said.
