THE Doreen Fire Brigade will be even more prepared for summer after receiving a $5000 grant to fund volunteer training.

The Lend Lease Community Service Grant will boost facilities for training scenarios with the purchase of a smoke machine to provide realistic simulated smoke.

Doreen Fire Brigade captain Chris Maries said the grant would be put to good use.

“With the rapid growth of the Doreen region, and the types of buildings being constructed, it is even more pertinent the skills of our volunteers be enhanced to meet these growing needs,” Capt Maries said.

“The smoke machine we will use this funding for is directly in line with this need, ensuring we continue to provide an expert service to the local community.”

Delfin Laurimar project director Sean Pinan said the Doreen Fire Brigade provided a vital service to the local community.

“The Doreen Fire Brigade is made of up more than 60 dedicated local volunteers who offer their time free of charge,” Mr Pinan said.

“Volunteer organisations such as the brigade rely heavily on funding from government, private enterprise and the community … and we are pleased to be able to support such a worthy organisation.”
