Broadford win thriller

BROADFORD won its first innings over Tallarook in the Seymour District Cricket Association A Grade round six match in thrilling fashion on Saturday before doubling up to claim outright victory later in the day.
Day two began with Tallarook requiring four runs to win the first innings, but Broadford needed just one wicket to steal victory. Up stepped spinner Michael Berry, who snared the final wicket in thrilling fashion, to claim victory by a solitary run.
It did not finish there for the home side, as they went out to bat again and put 100 on the board courtesy of captain Damien Inness and Michael Edwards, both posting scores of 33, which set Tallarook 102 for outright victory.
The visitors did not make it half way to the total, bowled all out for 49 after strike bowler Joel Dunn skittled the opposition with figures of 5/20.
Tallarook’s Lachlan Watts made 30 of his side’s 49 in the second dig but did not get the support he needed down the order.
KILMORE cruised to first innings victory over Alexandra on Saturday, winning by 68 runs.
The bowling attack was spearheaded by captain Travis Blackwell, who claimed figures of 8/31 in the rout of the home side.
The Blues have triumphed in five of their six matches this year in A grade and are proving to be one of the sides to beat in the competition.
WALLAN needed only 70 runs off 23 overs to claim victory over Bacchus Marsh in its Gisborne and District Cricket Association B Grade match on Saturday before rain stopped play, making it a draw. The Magpies were 6/188 before the rain came, courtesy of a solid innings’ of 49 from both Andrew Bott and Matt Bell and 39 from Donald Furber. The Marsh posted a respectable 9/257 off 75 overs on day one of the match.
MERNDA posted a respectable 238 on day one of its Diamond Valley Cricket Association Barclay Shield clash against North Eltham at Mernda Recreation Reserve on Saturday.
Leading the way for the home side was opening bat Callum Dean, who hit 89, including seven fours. The Demons then snared a wicket through captain Ian Chesterton to have the visitors 1/26 at stumps.
WHITTLESEA won the toss and elected to bowl and managed only four wickets while Yarrambat helped itself to 320 runs in the Money Shield at Yarrambat War Memorial Park on Saturday.
The home side declared and then clipped the Eagles’ wings by having the visitors at 2/21 in reply at stumps.
Simon Bray was the thorn in Whittlesea’s side, hitting 188, before being run out.
