BROADFORD and Tallarook set up a classic day-two finale in their Seymour District Cricket Association A Grade match on Saturday.
Losing the toss and being sent in, the Broadford side put up 101 before an inspired bowling effort had Tallarook at 9/98 at stumps to make the first overs match-deciding ones.
Matt Irving led the way with the ball, finishing with 3/10.
Kilmore is now evenly poised with its opponent after day one of its SDCA A Grade match on Saturday.
After winning the toss and batting, the Blues posted a total of 142, led by Rod McLeod unbeaten on 58 and captain Travis Blackwell making 44.
In reply, Alexandra is 1/10, requiring another 133 for victory.
Blackwell and McLeod batted the visitors out of trouble at 4/18, to a defendable 142.
“You take 140 when you’re 4/18,” Blackwell said.
“The pitch was very lively, but in saying that they had one bowler, Nicholls, who bowled really well for them.”
The Kilmore captain was full of praise for McLeod, who did not give up his wicket for the second week running, making 58 not out, on top of his unbeaten 90 last week.
“Rod’s batting pretty well, he’s very handy to have,” he said.
“The only problem is we need a couple more like him to stay out there with him.”
Blackwell came in at number six and hit 44, proving he’s no bunny strike bowler with the willow.
The Blues’ first scalp was very handy, according to Blackwell, despite still being behind in the game.
“We got one of their key batsmen out, so it’s game on at the minute,” he said.
“We’re behind the eight ball a little bit, but if we get a few wickets early, it will be game on again.”
Play resumes this Saturday at 1pm.
