SYDENHAM Hillside and Buckley Park drew in their North West Cricket Association George Luscombe shield one-dayer at Buckley Park East on Saturday, as rain washed out the remaining five overs of play.

Buckley Park won the toss and batted first, posting a solid 4/254 off 40 overs, led by century-maker Dean Erdman who ended with 114 and supported by Daniel Mociak who made 60 and steered the side away from the early danger at 3/33.

The Storm was not to be denied and had a decent dig at the innings before play was stopped, finishing on 7/201 after 34.1 overs.

Top-scoring for Hillside was Warren Hackney with 73, while Phil Rigg junior and Blake Charlton chipped in with 30 apiece.

When play was stopped 54 runs was still required from 35 balls.

Hillside captain Bob Kunesevic said while it was disappointing that a result was not achieved, he would settle for the three points (given in a draw).

“We were on target, needing ten runs an over,” he said.

“That said, Buckley Park were probably one wicket away from the advantage.

“We’re in the four (on the ladder), and after round seven, having not yet played our best cricket, it’s good to be in the four.”

Kealba-Green Gully had a bye in round seven.
