A CHANCE look at last week’s Star newspaper has resulted in a happy reunion, four months after the Black Saturday fires separated Bonnie Francis and her cat Louise.
Louise was one of three cats featured in last week’s edition of Star after Mitchell Shire Council appealed for help to find their owners.
The three tabbies had been found in various locations around the region, in the immediate aftermath of the bushfires.
Council environmental services manager David Huxtable said council’s enforcement and compliance unit had successfully reunited many pets and owners, but was still searching for the families of the two remaining felines, as well as an American bulldog-cross pup.
Bonnie Francis and her husband Graeme lost everything – including their award-winning “Stringybark” bed and breakfast business and their two beloved cats, Phoebe and Louise – despite their best efforts to protect their property on Black Saturday.
She said following the fires, the family had moved out of the region “as many people had” until their home could be rebuilt, but had returned to the Mt Disappointment property several times in the hopes of finding some sign of their moggies.
