VOLUNTEERS who are handy with a chainsaw or even a pair of gloves have been called on to register for a mass clean-up in the Kinglake region.

Whittlesea City Council is taking registrations for the clean-up, which will be led by up to 25 SES volunteer chainsaw teams.

Mayor Mary Lalios said the clean-up, to be held next month, will be carried out on any properties where trees have been felled as a result of the fires and the subsequent clean-up by Grocon.

“Many properties have fallen or felled trees that have been piled up through the State Government clean up, fire services reinstatement or that property owners who have been able to pile up themselves,” Cr Lalios said. “Through this generous SES offer people will now be able to use these trees for firewood next year or turn them into more manageable sizes for other uses such as mulching or cheaper removal options. We are very grateful to the SES for this volunteer service, which will provide some much-needed assistance for people who have piles of felled trees that they would otherwise have to burn or arrange other expensive removal options.”

To register or for further information contact Whittlesea City Council on 9217 2170.
