BROADFORD’S woes continued on Saturday with the side’s fourth consecutive loss of its Riddell District Football League (RDFL) season, this time against Melton.

The Kangaroos had a poor start to the game and it showed on the scoreboard, eventually going down 15.7.97 to 8.9.57.

Melton was in control all day, holding a three-goal margin for most of the first half before blowing the game out after the main break.

Four goals to one in the third term all but ended Broadford’s chances, and when the game was done and dusted in the final quarter both teams opened up, with Melton outscoring the Kangaroos six goals to five.

Broadford coach Chris Nolan had few positives to take from the game.

“We put in a bad one, we’re just not playing as a team, pretty much,” he said.

“We put some good passages together but some ordinary ones as well, I’m at a bit of a loss at the moment.”

But Nolan did find a few highlights from the day.

“Lindsay Black rucked quite well and gave us a lot of opportunities to capitalise on his good ruckwork, but we’re just not good enough with the footy at the moment, that’s one area we’re struggling in.

“Justin Webb did a fair job in a tagging role and Clint Moran was pretty good in defence.

“Eddie Neilson had another good game, but apart from that we were hard-pressed to find another clear-cut winner on the ground.”

Nolan was clearly disenchanted after the game and said the team was not responding to his coaching.

“I’m not sure what the answer is, I’m starting to doubt whether I’m the right person for the job, the message isn’t getting through, they don’t seem to be listening to me.”

But he remained upbeat about the side’s chances against Kilmore this Sunday in the local derby at Harley Hammond Reserve.

“We’ll get down and desperate and try and pinch a win against Kilmore on Sunday. If we can win 10 or 11 positions on the ground we should be able to win it.”
